Is this really a hair salon? We don’t blame you for asking. These super-Instagrammable spaces don’t look anything like one.
Edgy Haircut, Minimalist Décor
Designed by Teruhiro Yaganari of renowned Japanese design studio Isolation Unit, Pact+Lim has an open concept, with strong graphic lines dominating the space. We love the understated style – think comfy, simply designed salon chairs and frameless full-length mirrors – and the uber-cute reception area, which is designed to resemble a greenhouse. This salon, known as much for its skilled stylists as its minimalist interior, is a must-go if you’re into super-trendy haircuts or are looking for an edgy makeover – the stylists are trained in Japanese haircutting techniques and styles, and to be honest, we wouldn’t waste their skills on a mere trim.
Pact+Lim is at #02-16/18 Orchard Central (tel: 6884-4143).
Enjoy Soothing Hair Treatments in a “Garden”
Conceived by June Ng, director of J’s Salon, the 5,500 sq ft J’s Salon boasts posh furnishings imported from Italy, such as cushy chairs (just like those you recline on in Business Class on a flight), a great view of the riverfront, and a garden-like room where you’ll be getting your treatment done. The last has lavish reclining chairs for maximum comfort and even has faux grass covering the walls and parts of the floor to simulate a real garden, adding to the relaxing vibe of the space. If you want to enjoy the pampering face and hair services in private, opt for one of the 10 rooms at the salon, which also houses Kerastase Scalp & Hair Institute (a hair spa that exclusively uses Kerastase products) and a Lancome makeup bar. We recommend the Deluxe Ritual Suite Treatment (from $318 for 135min), which targets both scalp and hair issues, and includes a relaxing head-and-shoulder massage – which, combined with the luxe surroundings, makes for a shiok unwinding session.
J’s Salon is at Level 3 Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel Singapore (tel: 6733-3882).
Branche Hair & Nail salon spans 1,400 sq ft (slightly bigger than a five-room HDB flat), and is decked out in black and mahogany furniture. Entering it feels almost like stepping into someone’s lavish, tastefully decorated home – which is exactly what Tohyama, the salon’s in-house designer, was aiming for when he conceptualised the space.
Hair services are done in private areas separated by walls that are over 1m tall, but if you’ve got cash to splash, opt for the even more private VIP room, which comes equipped with a Takara Belmont Yume chair. Customers can remain seated in this pricey chair – it costs $25,000! – throughout the treatment, even when it’s time for a hair wash, thanks to its rotatable seat, fully reclinable back and adjustable headrest. The salon also offers services for the hands and feet, including a gel nail service that it claims won’t damage nails.
All customers will be served complimentary champagne, matcha latte and Japanese fruit tea from the salon’s private bar. The salon uses Japanese Imabari towels that are known for being exceptionally soft, absorbent and gentle on skin. One large, good-quality Imabari towel can cost up to $200.
Branche Hair & Nail is at #B1-33 Capitol Piazza (tel: 6702-3036).
