3 Places to Buy a Beer Growler in Singapore

Forget the six-pack! Try a craft beer-filled growler from these bars instead.

1. Amber Nectar

There are four different beers available for growler takeaways: Hofbräu Original, the darker style, spicy Hofbräu Dunkel, the fruity Münchner Weisse, a German Hefeweizen (unfiltered wheat beer) and the Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen, known for its distinctive smoky finish. The tinted brown glass growler can store up to 4 pints (1.89 litres) and keeps out UV rays so your beer stays fresher for longer. $36 and up per growler, but prices are cheaper when you bring it back for refills. 2. Smith Street Taps

Flavours at this hot Chinatown hangout change almost daily, so move fast if you want to bring home a growler full of your favourite beer. Prices range from $20 to $40 a litre, depending on the style of beer, from 5-percent ABV golden or pale ales all the way up to limited-edition 12 percent ABV barrel-aged imperial stouts and Belgian quadruppels. Throwing a party and not sure what will work well with your food menu? Ask the tapmaster for recommendations. (Blk 335 Smith Street, #02-062, www.facebook.com/smithstreettaps)

3. Joo

This popular restaurant and bar serves up a mean makgeolli – that’s Korean rice beer for the uninitiated – and delish drinking snacks like tofu chips ($20), Joo Bangers & Mash ($24) and the popular mangalitsa belly. But it’s also got a special growler tap that pours two brews – the original and the dunkel – from Hofbrau. $45 for the larger and $50 for the Weizen. (5 Tan Quee Lan St, www.joo-bar.com)
