We’re always looking for a great new place to eat – even better when the menus are varied and the prices not outrageous. Lucky for you, we also LOVE to share our finds!
Joo means alcohol in Korean so yes, you’ll find a lot of booze here. The star on the drinks menu, however, is their Korean rice wine called makgeolli. You can either order the original version or try the blended fruit flavours like the tangy Yucha, $22. Of course, we don’t encourage downing drinks without nibbles. Start with the crispy Tofu chips, $14, or sink your teeth into padak (fried chicken), $18, which is served with an awesome soy-ginger-honey-vinegar sauce.

When chefs combine two cuisines, they risk losing unique flavours. But Miam Miam does it cleverly (with Japanese and French) by playing with textures so that the results don’t dilute. Take the Modern Yaki in their Lunch Executif set, $17.90: the sprinkling of shredded seaweed and dried, smoked tuna shavings on top adds a bit of salty crunch to the al dente spaghetti. Order two set lunches to get a free Matcha Red Bean Cream Pancake, $12.80.

If you’re looking for a relaxed hideout around Somerset, make your way to Kuvo. Here, you can enjoy cocktails, $21 each, or savour All-Day Breakfast items, from $15, and Asian dishes like Nasi Goreng, $20, while admiring the bustling night view of Orchard Road. Then move over to the bar, where you can tell the barman your favourite spirits and he’ll create a bespoke cocktail just for you.
