Wallpaper is back in style because it looks luxe and it’s more practical than ever. Here’s how it can work magic in your home, instead of the more usual renovation choice of paint.
- It hides flaws – Wallpaper can camouflage cracked or damaged walls, soften irregular structural features, and unite odd angles. You can also add personal style to one “feature wall” with paper printed with tiles, murals, photos or art.
- It lasts longer – “Wall coverings last up to 10 years if put up properly”, says Derrick Ng, manager at Goodrich Global. “If you always use air-con, it can sometimes make wallpaper peel at the corners. It’s no big problem – it’s just a minor touch up every two years”, says Chlöe Elkerton, a partner at E&A Interiors, who’s been decorating Singapore homes with wallpapers for six years.
- It can be wiped clean – Today’s vinyl wallpapers are anti-mould and anti-fungus. Plus they’re as washable as paint, so they’re great for kids’ bedrooms and bathrooms. If you prefer the look of paper, Chlöe recommends Galbraith & Paul, “They come with a special coating, so they can be sponged.”
