4 Virtual Ways to Pay Up

We round up our favourite digital payment modes. Best part? They’re convenient and safe to use.

WHAT IS IT? A virtual card – it comes with its own 15- or 16-digit card number – that lets non-credit-card users shop online using Matchmove, a pre-paid e-wallet, which you can top up with money from a savings account via selected ATMs or a debit card.

WHY IS IT SAFE? Paying from the e-wallet means you don’t have to reveal credit or debit card details. Plus, every time you shop online, you’ll need to request a Card Security Code (CSC), which is valid for a one-time payment only.

WHAT IS IT? An app that facilitates cashless payment at participating shops like Watsons or Topshop. Simply open the app and enter the Dash Counter Code displayed at the cashier to make payment.

WHY IS IT SAFE? To top up your mobile wallet, you’ll need to enter your username and password, followed by a one-time password (OTP). You’ll receive an SMS notification for all fund transfers – your transaction history can be viewed in the app.

WHAT IS IT? This mobile payment option lets you pay for meals and make online purchases with ease, and it remembers your details – no need to re-enter them the next time you dine at the same restaurant, for example. Plus, it comes with a buyer-protection security feature that safeguards you against defective or unsatisfactory purchases. To sign up, set up a Paypal account at www.paypal.com and download the participating merchants’ apps which let you visit hotel reservation site Hotel Quickly, travel booking site https://12go.asia and restaurant Coastes Singapore, among others.

WHY IS IT SAFE? During payment, you’ll be asked for your user ID and password. Financial credentials – like credit card or bank account information – are not stored, so merchants will not have this data either.

WHAT IS IT? This digital payment platform simplifies your checkout experience, whether you’re using a computer or a mobile device. All you need to do is select “Buy with Masterpass” when you’re checking out. Participating merchants include Zuji, Shaw Theatres and Luxola.

WHY IS IT SAFE? Your shipping address and credit card details are stored and protected in a multi-tiered security system. During checkout, you’ll be prompted to sign in to your Masterpass account and answer a security question. After confirming the amount to pay, you’ll need to enter the OTP that will be SMSed to you.
