Adult Enrichment Classes You’ll Love

Living in Singapore means being exposed to a wide variety of cultures and ideas. It provides the perfect opportunity for you to learn a new skill or further develop your passion(s). But where to begin? These are some ideas to help get you started but beware…you might want to explore all these options! (And while we’re great at helping you out, we cannot add extra hours to your day.)


Laneway Learning

This “ragtag series of evening classes” gives you the chance to come learn about something new and meet new friends in an informal setting. Taught by people in the local community, classes range from learning to make a scarf to gardening to making bead coasters. If you have a talent, passion or expertise you want to share, you can even create your own class.

Cost: $20 per class.

Cookery Magic

Learn to cook Asian and Singaporean dishes in the comfort of a lovely home kitchen. Ruqxana Vasanwala began Cookery Magic in 2001 and it has grown into one of the “must-do” activities in Singapore. She runs regular classes for adults, some for kids and even corporate classes.  With her warm and welcoming personality and culinary know-how, Ruqxana will teach you how to make meals that impress!

Baobab Photography School

If you are consistently disappointed in the photos you take, have a camera but are afraid to move it from the “auto” setting or just looking to improve your photography schools, Karen Lucas of Baobab Photography can help! With classes ranging from beginner to advanced, photography walks and workshops, Baobab has a lot to offer. (You can even book classes online.)

Epower Language Lab

One of the (many) huge advantages of living as an expat in Singapore is the access to so many different languages! Learn Mandarin, English, Japanese or Korean at the Epower Language Lab. The MOE approved school with accredited teachers caters to beginners and advanced students. Whether you want to learn for business, conversation or to improve your skills, there is a class designed for you (and your kids)! Classes can be arranged in your home or office.

Foundation Oil Painting

Accomplished local artist, Mr. Wee Shoo Leong strives to teach art lovers and budding painters the foundation of oil painting. He offers 2.5 hour classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Most painting are completed in 3-4 classes and he charges a monthly rate (not including materials). You’ll get personalized attention, his expertise and produce great pieces of art.

Expat Kitchen

This popular cooking school offers course to anyone in Singapore looking to hone their cooking skills. Their courses for helpers are particularly popular as they will review nutritional information and good hygienic practices. They have commercial kitchen space available for hire, kids cooking classes and they provide catering. They have a wide variety of teachers with varying areas of expertise.

Cost: 1 class – $165 (price goes down with more classes)

Not only does this Loewen Garden café offers cooking classes, but they also host an organic farmer’s market on Saturdays and will cater events. Learn the art of Asian cooking with cuisines from Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore or learn The Pantry secrets through Baking 101, and Salads and Marinades. They also offer courses for kids.
