Ask The Expert: Which International School Curriculum Is Best For MY Child?

Instead, a better way to approach this question is to consider which curriculum is most relevant, challenging and engaging for your child.

“The learning outcomes and academic rigour can vary in different curriculums, and how it is delivered,” says Fiona, adding that the quality of the teacher delivering it are significant factors, too. If your child is in his or her senior year, ask how the curriculum is assessed, as some students perform better in assignments than examinations.

Should my child have a say in this choice?
That depends on your child’s age. For older students, elective subjects are important as they craft their senior learning journey. Students and parents must have an understanding of the curriculum (and the subjects it offers). As children progress in their educational journey, they develop a deeper understanding of their strengths and challenges and the type of learner they are.

What if my child isn’t suited for traditional academic choices?
There are alternative options available. AIS offers certificate options in Hospitality and Construction for students who flourish in more practical, hands-on subjects. We also offer International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) and the International Baccalaureate Certificate.

Does curriculum choice affect college applications?
It depends on where and what your child wants to study. At the end of students’ senior year, they receive a result that is used to apply for universities. Applications can be supplemented with references, academic transcripts and other necessary entrance requirements that are required.
