Ahh, the burnt cheesecake goodness has made its way to our shores in Singapore. Since its creation in 1990 by chef Santiago Rivera of La Viña in San Sebastian, Spain, this delectable delight has taken the world by storm making its way onto various restaurant menus and of course, tantalised taste buds with it’s satisfying mix of flavours and textures.
We’ve scoped out 14 great bakeries that will have you Basque-ing in its creamy deliciousness.
1. Teaspoon of Love
Tea and cake? Yes please! This specialty teashop and bakery infuses various teas into their burnt Basque cheesecakes. Fans of matcha can indulge in the Matcha Burnt Cheesecake ($51.90) or if you’d like something a little different, try its Yuan Yang Burnt Cheesecake ($55). Yuanyang is a milk tea mixed with coffee iced drink that is served at teahouses in Hong Kong and the bakery uses black tea (with subtle floral notes). Locally roasted beans from Common Man Coffee Roasters is also used to create this confection.
2. Amrita’s Artisan Bakeology
Nutella and cheesecake? Very hard to resist. Amrita’s Artisan Bakelogoy has been featured by Expat Choice Asia and local food blogger Seth Lui. The Oh Nutella cheesecake which features its classic burnt cheesecake with dollops of Nutella comes in two sizes, five inches ($52) and seven inches ($82). You can also purchase the classic Naked Burnt Cheesecake or try the Berried Burnt Cheesecake which is topped with seasonal berries and flowers!

Can’t get enough of Basque burnt cheesecake? Esquina’s 11 inch Large Basque Cheesecake ($108) serves 6 to 8 people! The restaurant also does a medium sized one at $46 and adorable mini Basque Cheesecakes at 2 or 9 pieces per box.

This stylish cheesecake has been featured by Vogue and Tatler Singapore. That perfectly golden caramelised crust is definitely ready for its closeup! This cheesecake (available for delivery only) is 7 inch in size. Though it doesn’t have an overly caramelised crust, it still has that truly molten cream cheese heart. Orders are known to sell out extremely fast (a good sign that these must be super delish, yes?) so keep updated with them on their website or social media pages.
5. Keong Saik Bakery
Can’t decide on what flavour of Basque burnt cheesecake to get? Keong Saik Bakery’s Two Face Cheesecake features a mix of half original and half matcha cheesecake at $8.10 per slice and $67 for a whole cake. Cheesecake purist? Fret not. It also sells a classic Burnt Cheesecake. Love local, South East Asian Flavours? Try its Pandan-flavoured version for a distinct taste.

6. Fluff Bakery
This well-loved halal bakery can be found amongst the quaint shophouses scattering Arab Street. Though its cupcakes have been receiving prime time spotlight, its Basque Burnt Cheesecake is not-so-well-kept secret as well. With a soft custard centre hidden beneath its signature burnt top, we challenge you to stop at one slice. Get a slice at $7.50 or the whole cake at $75.

6. TXA Gastrobar
TXA Gastrobar is a Modern European Pintxo bar specialises in small plates. For some context “pintxo” are small bites that are usually served with toothpicks at bars throughout Basque Country. What better way to end your Basque meal than with a sweet serving of burnt Basque cheesecake? These go for $10 a slice and can be ordered online as well.

7. Bakery Brera
This hidden gem in the heartlands specialises in freshly baked artisan breads and Viennoiseries (breakfast pastries made in the style of Vienna) that are made with ingredients and flours from Japan and France and are home to the insta-famous cruffin! All that aside, the bakery also does an awesome burnt Basque cheesecake. A slice goes for $8 or you can get the whole cheesecake at $66. A Hojicha-flavoured version is also available.

8. Cat & the Fiddle
The Charred Eclipse Cheesecake ($52.90) from Cat & The Fiddle is described as a toasty burnt cheesecake and is enriched with Martabak cheese, giving it an intense cheesy flavour. If you love a good mix of sweet and savoury, this cheesecake is the one for you. The best part? All cheesecakes sold here are officially Halal-certified.

9. The Kins’ Specialty Coffee
This minimalist cafe in Pasir Panjang serves up a luscious burnt cheesecake with a pillowy, fluffy centre that compliments the caramalised top! These delicate delights are only available for dine in and go for $8 a slice. Like something other than the classic go-tos? Try the Hojicha Burnt Cheesecake for $8.50 a slice.

10. The Whisking Well

We’ve got one unique turn of a cheesecake flavour for you. Burnt Bakes’ Vanilla & Thyme Burnt Cheesecake ($44). Vanilla and thyme? We’ll leave you to try it for yourself.
