Expatpreneur Awards 2019: How Johnson Chong Came To Offer UNIQUE Personal Coaching In Singapore

American expat and Sagehouse founder Johnson Chong launched the wellness studio in 2016 to offer classes to help busy people “awaken” the mind, body and spirit through personal coaching in Pilates, yoga, meditation, and “spiritual” coaching via inner development work.

Having moved to SG from the Big Apple in 2013, he previously studied dynamic movement and acting at Purchase College, New York. This training led him to pursue an advanced yoga teacher certification through programmes in New York and India, as well as Pilates and Gyrotonic teaching certifications. On top of that, he is a Reiki master, trained bodyworker, shamanic practitioner and meditation teacher. “Currently, I synthesise these bodies of work with InnerGuidanceTM, and coach clients to reconnect with their own self-mastery,” shares Johnson.

However, Johnson freely admits, he didn’t have his business formula down pat initially. “It wasn’t until the end of the second year that we realised our specialty was not in delivering group classes – our strength was in unique, one-on-one personal training,” says Johnson, whose life partner is Irish. “We decided to focus on personal coaching.”

Now, with a team of two full-time and four freelance instructors, Sagehouse has grown into a powerhouse of positivity, offering holistic, healthy solutions and ways to de-stress. And, Johnson appreciates the freedom and opportunity that running a business in SG affords him. “I love serving a community and country that really wants what we offer.”
