“I love what The Fishwives represents as a responsible, sustainable commercial outfit, and Rebecca is operationally phenomenal,” gushed eAwards judge Junxian Lee.
So it’s perhaps not at all surprising that many copycat businesses have popped up since Rebecca brought the brand – which focuses on sustainably sourced foods – with her from Hong Kong to SG in 2001. “I feel we paved the way for a lot of businesses that exist today!” says the Australian expat, who has three children – Chloe 18, Matilda 15, and Louis, 13 – with her hubby William.
Overseeing both a popular store at Cluny Court mall and a bustling e-commerce site, Rebecca acknowledges that it can be difficult to leave “work at work”. “I do try and switch off everything on Sundays, but as we are a seven-days-a-week business it’s hard to completely switch off,” she says. “My family are very good about it and understand… mostly!”
