Expatpreneur eAwards 2020: Julian Artopé On Transforming Smile Cosmetics

If you didn’t see our eAwards virtual event, and therefore haven’t watched German expat Julian’s hilarious acceptance speech, you really should.

He thanked “everyone” who made his win possible, including his mother, his father, his Zenyum Sonic toothbrush (which he used as a microphone) as well as “that dentist I met when I was 8 years old who set me on this path.”

His evident creativity is no doubt key to his current business success at Zenyum, which he started in 2018 and has already turned it into a leader in “smile cosmetics” by launching invisible braces, retainers, medical-grade whitening and more innovative products.

Julian, who is married to a Bulgarian expat, credits Singapore’s talent pool as well for his brand’s own strength. “At Zenyum, we embrace diversity and most of our staff is Singaporean,” he says, noting that would-be expatpreneurs should also avoid underestimating the domestic market. “Singapore is still one of our most important and largest markets, even though Zenyum is now in seven countries across Southeast Asia.”
