This International School Has Truly TAILORED Its Teachings During Covid-19 In Singapore

A week before the circuit breaker kicked in, The Grange Institution (TGI) conducted a science experiment for its Year 2 students to make their own hand sanitisers.

A total of three stations were set up. Teachers at the boutique international school located in Yio Chu Kang supervised these stations, and students went through each station to add the individual components to assemble their sanitisers. They were even able to customise the smell, based on the amount of tea tree oil they wished to add.

With time to spare, the students managed to put together more bottles for their Year 1 juniors in a gesture of sharing and caring.

Likewise, before the circuit breaker, The Grange had taken all the necessary precautionary measures mandated by the authorities to safeguard its students’ well-being.

The measures included temperature-taking and sanitising the students’ hands at least three times a day. Class teachers constantly reminded students to wash their hands regularly with soap and water, and to avoid touching their face.

Transitioning into the first phase of the break, when e-learning began, the first two days saw students practising self-directed learning, relying mainly on worksheets. During this time, students attended virtual classes as per normal, following the usual school timetable exactly, with all lessons conducted via Zoom.

Despite the challenges, The Grange has replicated a classroom experience and delivered quality teaching and learning without face-to-face interactions to students, preserving normalcy in their delivery of lessons to students. The newly introduced specialist subject, Technology, has assisted the youngest students (5 and 6 year olds) to become rather savvy at using computers for learning and to code.

For the extended home-based learning period throughout May, the school adopted a more balanced format of blended learning – with the intention to reduce exposure to electronic screen time for our learners.

But, The Grange is all about going the extra mile, recently introducing a new future-focused curriculum to provide its students with a strong foundation in learning literacy, numeracy and science infused with global perspectives.
