Nestled amongst the treetops of Telok Blangah Hill Park, ISS International School is one of the most centrally located international schools in Singapore – just a 10-minute drive from the CBD.
It is also the island’s longest-established International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum School, having nurtured learners from grades K to 12 since 1981. Home to a community of more than 40 nationalities, this family- operated, not-for-profit school celebrates differences while embracing the values that unite all.
3 Fast Facts:
1. All About IB
As ISS is an IB Continuum School, its students benefit from the entire IB framework. From the Primary Years Programme (PYP) to the five-year Middle Years Programme (MYP) – which ends with IB-validated eAssessment grades based on final examinations and coursework – students are fully equipped with the skills and experience necessary to succeed in the IB Diploma programme.
In addition, ISS is a non- selective IB World School that excels in high pass-rates from its bilingual IB Diploma graduates. All of this prepares students for university and higher education.
2. Personalised Learning
ISS’ IB-based academic curriculum incorporates a bespoke education philosophy. Its teachers adapt the curriculum based on what they observe is best for each student’s learning. This is supported by the ISS Learning Accelerator Programme, which creates individual learning plans based on each student’s strengths and weaknesses for their self-identified academic and community goals (interaction, participation, service).
Areas for development are also discussed with both student and parent and a personalised learning plan is drawn up by students with the help of teachers. By customising what and how students learn, focusing on their specific needs and strengths, ISS ensures the success of every one of its learners.
3. Nearby Nature
Situated within Telok Blangah Hill Park, ISS’ location amid tropical gardens offers a serene environment to learn and reflect. Add to that its lovely conserved heritage buildings. Near to many expat-friendly neighbourhoods such as Orchard, River Valley, Harbourfront and Holland Road, ISS is conveniently situated between the East-West and Circle MRT lines.
“[ISS] stood out for its quality and friendliness of the teachers. That impression has not changed since I visited the school. For my son, the IB curriculum is an eye-opening form of education – and even to us as parents. From the primary years, he has had the opportunity to discuss the importance of recycling, politics in each country, immigration and more. We like how they educate the children to have perspectives from a global point of view. I would highly recommend ISS for the intimate environment and natural surroundings. The children feel safe and are able to focus on their academics as well as sports.”
