As the earth’s temperature rises, citizens and governments worldwide are placing more attention on global warming.
In such times, it’s necessary to educate little ones on the significance of eco-consciousness, for they will carry the torch of sustainability toward the future. At Kinderland Singapore, cultivating care for the environment and empathy for others are important parts of the curriculum. It is so pupils can better understand how their actions affect Mother Earth and learn what they can do to contribute positively.
With 43 years of experience and proven teaching methodologies, Kinderland has nearly 60 preschools in the region, offering quality infant care and bilingual preschool education. Find out how this preschool has established trust with many families – while teaching their pupils to respect the planet.
Conscious about eco-consciousness
EQland – one of Kinderland’s developmental domains – focuses on the development of character by refining social and emotional skills. Environmental issues about climate change and conservation are also tackled, backed by a commitment to raise eco-conscious individuals – both at school and at home.
Through this, Kinderland hopes to empower its pupils to grow into global citizens who can overcome challenges in the world. Other domains include Kineticland, Intelliland, Natureland, Digiland and cReativeland, all of which follow the Ministry of Education’s Nurturing Early Learners framework.
Streams of innovation
Kinderland preschoolers made foot-operated hand sanitisers using recyclables in 2020, through group efforts. The pupils did the brainstorming, research and planning, project design and material selection to create the prototypes.
This is part of Kinderland’s S.T.R.E.A.M. programme, which explores Science, Technology, Reading & wRiting, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. “S.T.R.E.A.M. takes place every second term of the year,” explains Dr. Carol Loy, Director of Curriculum and Professional Development. “Not only does it help students be more creative, it also aims to be more proactive in searching for ways to live more sustainably.”
One with nature
Beyond the classroom, Kinderland provides an immersive opportunity to study the natural environment. The Nature Learning Trail at the Yio Chu Kang campus allows pupils to learn empathy and compassion for other living things. They develop these values through understanding life cycles and being involved in protecting the embryonic development of the chicks on campus.
