Burger King’s Singapore National Day menu gets local flavour with the Rendang Angus Beef Burger and desserts inspired by local flavours. For anyone reading this from overseas, Shiok means tasty and satisfying in Singapore English. For Singapore’s 56th birthday celebration, Swensen’s So Shiok! Set is $56++ (u.p.: $73.50++). Each set includes a So Shiok! Platter with favourite snacks and bites like Onion Rings and Fries with a chili crab dip, two So Shiok! Mains like Nasi Lemak Burger or Nasi Lemak Pizza, two Soups of the Day, two drinks, and a Goreng Pisang Split for dessert. 4. PizzaExpress’ Uniquely Singaporean Pizza

Featuring succulent crab meat and juicy pork in a spicy crab-based broth, the Steamed Chili Crab & Pork Xiao Long Bao is a treat for your tastebuds. It’s available at $4 for two bao, or $7.50 for four bao. If you’re a Citi cardmember, you get 10-percent off the Steamed Chilli Crab & Pork Xiao Long Bao.

6. 800 Degrees Firewood Kitchen’s Chilli Crab Pizza

7. Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks’ XXL Chilli Crab Chicken

The name may say Taiwan, but we’re allowing this menu because of the chilli crab sauce – and we all know Singapore chilli crab sauce is the best (no bias here). The spicy and tangy sauce for Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks’ XXL Chilli Crab Chicken is prepared fresh daily. Then it’s drizzled on crispy chicken. Say konichiwa and Happy Birthday Singapore at the same time. Sushi Tei has specially created two new National Day specials – Mala Tendon ($13.80), and Singapore-inspired Chicken Satay Roll ($7.80). 10. Blue Jasmine’s SG56 Set

The SG56 Birthday Set from Peranaken restaurant Blue Jasmine, begins with a refreshing Glass Noodle Salad with Prawn, followed by a rich and creamy Coconut Chicken Soup. This features boneless kampong chicken and oyster mushroom in a luscious coconut cream-based soup. With a spicy, umami kick, the Dry Red Curry Seabass is best savoured with steamed rice. Of course, there is always room for desserts – red and white Colourful Glutinous Rice Ball with Sweet Coconut Milk, gives a patriotic nod to the colours of the Singapore flag.

11. Soup Restaurant’s National Day Set

For the 56th National Day celebrations you can enjoy Soup Restaurant’s National Day Set for 5 pax at 56-percent off. The National Day menu goes for $109.52 (u.p.: $248.90), and features eight different offerings. It includes the Signature Samsui Ginger Chicken, Traditional Boiled Soup of the Day, Chinatown Egg Fried Rice, Claypot Tofu, and two new dishes: Abalone Mushroom Broccoli and Braised Pork with Dried Shrimp in Whole Pumpkin. For dessert, each set also comes with Aloe Vera Jelly and the new Singa Bao – adorable lion-shaped steamed buns with lotus filling. The goal is to make it easier for you to eat well at home as you enjoy the National Day Parade livestream, parked on your sofa. 14. Yàn’s Dim Sum Party Takeaway Set

16. Swissbake’s Gula Melaka Toast

Used in kueh, cakes and pastries, it delivers sweetness, plus a fragrance and depth of flavour you just don’t get with ordinary sugar. To celebrate National Day, Swissbake has created the Gula Melaka Toast Loaf ($5.90) – a loaf made with gula melaka. It’s got the softness of white bread, but it’s brown in colour, from the gula melaka. When you open the packaging, you can smell the fragrance of gula melaka. Swissbake has also released Country Milk Toast ($4.90), an elevated take on the classic soft-as-air milk bread that Singaporeans love.

23. Burger & Lobster’s Celebratory Cocktail

Celebrating Singapore’s 56th birthday, Burger & Lobster at Raffles Hotel and The Jewel mall have concocted a unique cocktail called Gin-pura. Made with rose syrup, condensed milk, cream, citrus and egg, it gets an alcoholic kick from Singapore Distillery Stolen Roses Gin. Created to complement Burger & Lobster’s signature local lobster dishes, Gin-Pura is available from 1 to 31 August only.
