Do Singaporeans shop more online?
Well, according to some recent stats, out of the 5 million people in Singapore that are internet users, almost three-quarters of users between the ages of 16 and 64 shop online. That’s a whopping 3.75 million people!
Given the current Covid-19 measures to slow down the pandemic, many people here and around the globe are shopping online, almost exclusively.
But, with perks like competitive prices, discount codes and free shipping, e-commerce remains super attractive to Singaporeans, why not shop online?
Here are 20 of the most frequently used sites from Singapore that are currently offering free shipping or free shipping with a minimum spend.
1. Lifestyle: Amazon
Standard shipping is free for all Amazon members, but $2.99 if you require one-day delivery. However, if you’re a Prime member, one-day delivery is available at no added cost. (Read about how Prime Now’s online grocery service compares to other popular e-grocers in SG.)
2. Lifestyle: Animi Causa
Animi Causa sells quirky home accessories, kitchenwares and gift items from wall decals to dinosaur-shaped tea infusers. It also offers free international shipping, which comes in handy if you decided to order some furniture to makeover your home (here’s some inspo for that, btw).
3. Lifestyle: Better World Books
Most Singaporeans turn to Carousell for used books and textbooks, but you can get them at UK-based online bookstore Better World Books as well. The site also sells new books. It ships internationally for free.
4. Lifestyle: Book Depository
Every bookworm should have Book Depository bookmarked on their browser already. In case you don’t know about it, it’s a website where you can find pretty much any book you want for much cheaper than at physical stores and shipping to Singapore is free. (JICYI, you can buy discount Moleskine notebooks from here, too.)
5. Lifestyle: Fishpond
Fishpond is another all-purpose retailer (a la Amazon) that offers free worldwide shipping. It’s got an extensive book collection as well as toys, homewares, baby products, health and beauty products and even jewellery. Note: Its stock comes from third-party warehouses and logistics providers, so you don’t know if your purchase will be shipped from Malaysia or Uruguay. Therefore, be prepared to wait a little for your loot.
6. Lifestyle: iHerb
iHerb is awesome for healthy snacks, organic toiletries and health supplements at great prices – mostly way cheaper than you’d pay for them at Watson’s or Cold Storage. Shipping is free with a minimum spend of US$40.
7. Lifestyle: Lazada
A one-stop shop, Lazada sells everything from electrical appliance to bags of rice (see how its RedMart e-store stacks up against other online grocers). While standard postal mail for smaller items are free – just a heads up – standard deliver will cost $1.49 and priority will cost $2.99.
8. Lifestyle: Shopee
People here love this e-commerce giant for good reason: Shopee has a free Shipping Program that you can choose to opt in to when you check out. Not all of its courier services provide this option, so be sure to check before you pay!
9. Beauty: Beauty Bay
Beauty Bay specialises in mostly affordable to mid-range skincare, haircare, makeup, nail and bath and body products. Consider bulk-buying here, as there’s an $88 minimum spend required for free international shipping.
10. Beauty: Cult Beauty
If browsing the racks at Sephora gives you heart palpitations instead of shivers of excitement, look to Cult Beauty, which curates a range of premium and cult brands to end shopper fatigue. It offers free shipping on a minimum spend of $51.
11. Beauty: Look Fantastic
Look Fantastic is Europe’s number-one beauty retailer and carries more than 500 premium brands on its site. Even better? It offers free shipping with no minimum spend.
12. Beauty: Sephora
Does Sephora even need an introduction? Clearly, that was a rhetorical question. You get free standard shipping with a minimum spend of $40, and if you are able to purchase at least $110 worth of beauty products, you can even get next day delivery with dedicated time slots.
13. Beauty: Strawberrynet
Strawberrynet sells a wide range of skincare, hair care and cosmetic products as well as perfumes, often at much lower prices than you’d pay at a retail store in Singapore. Worldwide shipping is free with no minimum spend on your first order, and free for orders of $50 or more subsequently. Note: Surcharges may apply for perfumes and hair care products.
14. Fashion: ASOS
UK-based fast fashion and high street retailer ASOS is popular amongst Millennial uni students and office workers (also thanks to its stylish plus-sized options), and it’s easy to see why. Items are generally decent quality and affordable, plus it’s so easy to hit the minimum spend of S$65 for free shipping.
15. Fashion: Modcloth
Online clothing store Modcloth is a big hit among women who like that vintage, retro look. It’s a goldmine of gorgeous plus-size clothing, too. The minimum order for free international shipping is a tiny bit steep, so try combining your order with family or friends.
16. Fashion: Pomelo
On Pomelo, not only are the clothes affordable, they’re stylish and there are thousands of designers to choose from. It offers free shipping on orders above $40.
17. Fashion: Shopbop
Shopbop is one of the most popular shopping sites with Singaporeans willing to pay more for luxury/cult fashion brands. That said, it doesn’t mean you should get ripped off on shipping fees! You’ll glad to know there’s free shipping if your order is above US$100, while orders under that amount cost only US$10 to ship.
18. Fashion: Uniqlo
Japanese casual wear retailer Uniqlo is practically ubiquitous in Singapore shopping malls. Now, that mall-shopping isn’t the safest, do some browsing on its online store instead. You’ll score free shipping on all orders above $60; orders under $60 cost only $6 to ship.
19. Fashion: ZALORA
Online retailer Zalora has transformed from being the poor cousin of ASOS, to a legit online fashion emporium in a matter of years. Its biggest selling point? It stocks brand names like Topshop, Abercrombie & Fitch, Levi’s, Superga and Nike. Shipping is free with a minimum spend of $40.
20. Fashion: ZARA
When it comes to translating runway trends into affordable fashion, almost no one can beat ZARA for speed. The fast-fashion chain is beloved by many for its interesting designs, and the free shipping above $79 doesn’t hurt either!
