5 SIMPLE Ways To Create A HAPPIER Home In Singapore

When you’re bombarded with doom-and-gloom headlines 24/7 and have to stay indoors as much as possible, the combination can really take a toll on your mental health.

Here are some simple ways to turn your living environment into a calming and positive space

1. Declutter and Organise

Some people actually thrive with clutter around them, according to studies done by scientists and researchers at the University of Minnesota. If you’re one of those folks, consider organising yourclutter into different piles.

However, if the saying“messy room, messy mind” applies to you, start clearing out everything you don’t need, including makeup, clothes, shoes and any odds and ends. Be merciless and put what isn’t needed in the “dispose”pile. Pass on the things you don’t need to your loved ones, up cycle them or donate them.

Once you have a clear space, you’ll feel the harmonious house feng shui energy – an enlightened load, so to speak. (Sounds too overwhelming? Try these 15-minute decluttering tricks instead.)

2. Add Some Plants

Speaking of fresh air, adding a plant can also do wonders. Indoor plants don’t just make your home look good, they’re also scientifically proven to boost your productivity and mood.

If you’re worried about not having a green thumb, start with these hardy plants that won’t need much care or die easily on you such as orchids or succulents.

3. Decorate, Lah

If you only buy things that make you happy, why decorate your house (or leave it bare) with things that you don’t like?

Changing the light fixtures, or adding bits of colour or objects that are aesthetically pleasing are just some ways to make you feel happier and less tense at home

4. Make Your Bed

It’s one of the simplest chores that we often skip, because we’re busy (or, ahem, lazy). Take a few minutes each morning to clean the bed. Simply smooth out the covers, or brush the bed to dust off any dead skin or dirt.

Leaving the bedroom clean and tidy will make you feel more welcomed when you return home.

5. Freshen Things Up!

While you are at it, try these different ways to use essential oils around the house to make your rooms fresh-smelling as well.

Why does scent matter? A study published in theInternational Journal of Neuroscience found that odours can affect your behaviour and mood. Lavender is a great go-to scent to feel more relaxed and happier.
