For unconventional arts

Want to witness some – we’d like to call it – dark arts? Winnie recommends Art after Dark at Gillman Barracks, a late-night open house held every few months. Check their Facebook event calendar to be in the loop.

“It gives visitors a sense of Singapore’s creative energy that did not exist five years ago,” she says.

“I love the soft serve and waffles at Sunday Folks, which is conveniently located next to Bynd Artisan’s atelier,” says Winnie, who’s also a fan of the cafe’s Lemon Lavender cake served warm.

For local designer finds

“Singapore has a lot of talented designers worth discovering,” contends Winnie. “A trip to K+ at Scotts Square or Supermama at Beach Road is a must.”

Winnie describes Carrie K.’s jewellery as “glamourous-looking with an edgy feel.” She owns several of the designer’s nut-and-bolt pieces in rose gold as well as Razor rings in gold, silver and gun metal.

For home design

Winnie and James like Foundry for its “treasure trove of beautiful things,” including their recent purchase: a one-off prototype lounge chair.

Winnie claims to goes through three to five bottles of Dr GL’s Skin Repair serum each month. “I swear by it,” she says of the multivitamin product said to have skinwhitening properties.

Check out Bynd Artisan

Winnie and James are nurturing their brand, which offers personalised paper and leather goods, crafting workshops and more.

Bynd Artisan’s flagship store in Chip Bee Gardens has actual artisans in residence. You can also browse the capsule collections and other artist collaborations at its shops-in-shop at Tangs Orchard and Pedder on Scotts Square.
