With more than 2,000 students from over 40 nationalities, St. Joseph’s Institution International (SJII) believes in offering a comprehensive, well rounded education that shapes little ones into capable global citizens.
The school has both an Elementary and a High School side, educating children from 4 up to 18 years old. As a Catholic institution with roots in Lasallian education in Singapore dating back to 1852, SJI International is committed to nurturing students to become people of integrity and compassion.
3 Fast Facts:
1. All-inclusive education
SJI International Elementary School’s curriculum comprises many successful components. The MOE Singapore Mathematic syllabus is covered, together with a Language Arts curriculum that incorporates programmes from the UK and a Workshop approach from the US. For Humanities and Sciences, SJI International follows the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). Chinese is a daily subject for all students, and Spanish is offered as an alternative in Grades 5 and 6.
2. Citizens of the world
SJI International Elementary School introduced the Virtues Project with the aim of providing a holistic education that shapes children into compassionate global citizens. It is based on the beliefs and virtues valued by diverse cultures and world religions. Its mission is to provide empowering strategies to children that would inspire the practice of virtues in their everyday life and allow a deeper understanding of other cultures and practices.
3. More than the classroom
Beyond academic subjects, SJI International Elementary School aims to nurture a strong sense of moral responsibility in students, reflected through an active commitment to the service of other people, especially the less fortunate. An importance is also placed on developing children’s interests and hobbies through sports, adventure, music and drama activities – all to nurture a sense of self-worth and life-long inspiration.
Parent Perspective
“SJI International’s preschool curriculum is well-rounded and focuses on playful learning in an inclusive environment. The virtues framework forms the foundation of all interactions at the school and is really lived out by everyone. We like the enthusiasm of teachers and support staff, the friendly and constructive approach toward learning and the balanced programme on offer.” – Matt and Britta van der Gaag, parents of Luna (Grade 2), and Kaia (Prep 1)
