Brighten up your day with wholesome gluten-free, vegan (and more!) food with The Whole Kitchen.
“We are always striving to reignite people’s love for real food,” say co-founders of The Whole Kitchen Anne Swain and Susan Soulard – who are winners of the special Innovation Award (Products + Services) as part of The Finder’s Expatpreneur Awards 2021.
The journey up
Elaborating on the launch of The Whole Kitchen in 2015, they say, “It was hard to find genuinely healthy food in Singapore.” So they set out on an entrepreneurial journey, combining their passions for nutrition and real food to make tasty and healthy products. First, they distributed The Whole Kitchen’s unique products – gluten-free goodies freshly baked in SG, made from all natural ingredients, low in natural sugars and free of additives – via their website and at retail stores, supermarkets and hotels. In 2020, they launched an al fresco cafe in Katong.
Tasting is believing
Visit the cafe and you can enjoy good food, with a great coffee or wholesome smoothie. Everything on the menu is, in fact, gluten-free, all natural, refined sugar-free and made with whole food ingredients. There are also options for vegan, dairy-free, paleo, keto and low- carb diet followers.
Must-orders include the addictive Avo-toast, gooey Banana Toasties with house-made peanut butter and hazelnut- cacao spread, and the signature – toasted Mumbai Sandwich with tomato, cucumber and cheese served with chaat masala, mild green chutney and tomato kasundi relish. They all feature soft, flavourful bread made from organic brown rice and buckwheat flour.
Also try a slice of one of The Whole Kitchen’s delectably moist cakes that are high in protein and fibre, such as the elegant Lemon Pistachio or rich Chocolate Peanut Butter. Or, pick from top-selling treats and snacks like vegan brownies, baked nut mixes, low-sugar granolas and vegan energy balls. Bonus: Many products are halal-certified, too.
Clearly, The Whole Kitchen has achieved much over the last six years. “Some of the highlights have been winning the Singapore Airlines account, launching our gluten-free baked goods and snacks sold at major retailers, and launching our first cafe,” they say. But, as at their brand’s start, what truly motivates these two is giving the best quality of healthy food without compromising on taste.
