Your Friday Night Plans Sorted

Yes, it can be expensive to drink out in Singapore – but only if you don’t know where and when to go. Let our happy hour guide lead you to wallet-friendly boozing.

The Green Door

13A Dempsey Road, tel: 6479-5945

A selection of craft beers, spirits, wines and cocktails – the most popular being the garden inspired, fruit-based tipples – goes on happy hour pricing every day here. Fancy a gin based Passion In The Garden with passion fruit pulp and fresh pineapple) or Mango A Go-Go (vodka and Grand Marnier with fresh mango and strawberries), anyone?

Happy hour: 5-8pm (Monday to Saturday) and 1-8pm (Sunday)

Oriole Coffee + Bar

#01-01 Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Orchard, 96 Somerset Road, tel: 6238-8348

You don’t have to stick to coffee just because you’re in a cafe. Start your boozing early here with one for-one offers on draft beers, house wines, spirits and sangria all the way until 9pm. And if you’re still inclined to go on after that, any three bottles from a selection of popular beer and cider brands are priced at just $30.

Happy hour: 3pm till late, daily

Bedrock Bar & Grill

#01-05 Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Orchard, 96 Somerset Road, tel: 6238-0054

It’s possibly one of the most generous happy hour promotions in town: Bedrock offers one-for-one deals on draft beer, house pour wines and spirits from noon to 9pm every day – yes, even Sunday. We’re not saying you should excuse yourself for a long lunch on Friday, but it would be a real pity if you didn’t.

Happy hour: Noon to 9pm, daily

Manhattan Bar

Level 2 Regent Singapore, tel: 6725-3377

Happy hour here is dubbed Violet Hour, and all guests are welcomed with complimentary cocktail and gourmet sandwiches (the most popular on rotation is the pastrami-spiced sandwich). Drink prices don’t change at this place during happy hour, but you get sandwiches for every cocktail you order. Perfect for curbing those munchies.

Happy hour: 5-7pm, Monday to Friday

Salt Grill & Sky Bar

#55-01 and #56-01 Ion Orchard, tel: 6592-5118

For $25, you won’t get much more than a drink at a regular bar, but head for Salt Grill & Sky Bar at dusk, and in addition to a happy hour tipple (choose from the happy hour menu, which includes a range of spirits, beers and classic cocktails), you’ll enjoy half a dozen freshly shucked oysters. And that’s on top of the awesome view of the sweeping city skyline from the 55th floor.

Happy hour: 5-7:30pm, daily

Astor Bar

Lobby level, The St Regis Singapore, tel: 6506-6859

The best way to kick-start your Friday night shenanigans: enjoy flutes of “R” de Ruinart at St Regis’ plush Astor Bar. During Champagne Hour, the bubbly goes for $19 a glass, a marked discount from the usual $34. It even ends early enough so you can hit the town for more happy hour promotions.

Happy hour: 6:30-7:30pm, daily

Jigger & Pony

101 Amoy Street, tel: 6223-9101

A small selection of cocktails, wines and beers goes at $14 a drink, but we recommend sticking to just the cocktails – if their standard tipples (including a classic Old Fashioned and refreshing Elderflower Spritz) are any indication, just a couple of them will leave you happily inebriated well before happy hour ends. Have them with an accompanying menu of happy hour snacks, such as Fried House Pickles ($6) and Chicken Meatballs ($10).

Happy hour: 6-8pm, daily

Bumbo Rum Club

83 Club Street, tel: 6690-7563

During happy hour, a glass of house spirits is just $5 at this cheerful, Caribbean-themed bar, but Bumbo’s speciality is its rum collection – which is priced at just $7 a glass. Otherwise, it also offers your standard options of Stella Artois and Hoegaarden pints ($9) and red and white house wines ($9).

Happy hour: 5-9pm, daily

Senso Ristorante & Bar

21 Club Street, tel: 6224-3534

Retire to the cosy lounge after dinner at Senso, and you’ll get to imbibe prosecco, house wines, beers and spirits for just $10 each during the restaurant’s After Hours Delight promotion. This promotion is open to all patrons, even if you’re not dining there.

Happy hour: 8-10pm, Monday to Friday

Angie’s Oyster Bar

Level 45 Singapore Land Tower, 50 Raffles Place, tel: 6221-9555

Yes, you can drink for free in Singapore – no strings attached. During the Ladies Drink For Free hour at Angie’s, get unlimited rounds of Garden Pimm’s cocktails, a refreshing, easy-to-drink tipple with lemon, orange, cucumber and mint. Just the thing to go with the sprawling view afforded by the bar’s lofty location.

Happy hour: 5:30-7pm, Friday

The Pelican Seafood Bar & Grill

#01-01 One Fullerton, tel: 6438-0400

While The Pelican’s happy hour promotion – one-for-one offers on selected house reds and whites, beers and spirits – isn’t particularly exciting, we still love it for its sheer length (eight hours every day except Sunday) and the fact that you get a pretty unbeatable view of the Marina Bay enclave if you choose to have your drinks outdoors. Go early on Saturday and you can enjoy a rare moment of peace in the CBD too.

Happy hour: Noon to 8pm, Monday to Saturday

El Mero Mero

#01-20 Chijmes, 30 Victoria Street, tel: 6337-1377

Get into the mood for a Mexican fiesta every evening here at El Mero Mero. The El Mero Mero and margarita cocktails, as well as the red and white sangrias – in addition to the customary house reds and whites and bottled beers – go for just $9.90 a drink until 7pm. Complimentary snacks, which range from miniature versions of the main menu items to the chef’s creations of the day, are also passed around.

Happy hour: 5-7pm, daily

5 Tan Quee Lan Street, tel: 8138-1628

This snazzy spot brews its own organic makgeolli (Korean rice wine) and serves it on tap – both a first in Singapore. A carafe (500ml) of the refreshing brew goes for $10. Other happy hour promotions include a pint of beer on tap, a glass of house sparkling, and a glass of house red or white – all at $10 each.

Happy hour: 5:30-7:30pm, daily

#01-33 Chijmes, 30 Victoria Street, tel: 6776-0777

How can we not get behind a bar that has happy hour promotions almost as long as its operating hours? At the Chijmes outpost of Prive, you get happy hour pricing on selected beers, wines, spirits and mojitos from 11am-8pm. Yes, even on weekends.

Happy hour: 11am-8pm, daily

#01-19 China Square Central, 20 Cross Street, tel: 6221-3937

All cocktails are $8 each during happy hour, but make a beeline for the Italian classics like Bellini, Spritz and Negroni, as well as the restaurant’s own Italian creations such as the &Mojito and Bassanova – you’re in a traditional bacaro (Venetian bar), after all. If you’re into some mid-Friday boozing, draft beers go at $5 each all day until 8pm. Cheers to that.

Happy hour: 5-8pm, daily

#01-09 Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay, tel: 6604-9988

Make a trip for happy hour and get affordably priced daiquiris at $11.95 each (usual prices: $23-$26). In addition, you’ll enjoy the privileges that Pollen diners do – complimentary access to the Flower Dome plus buggy transfers to and from the restaurant. Score!

Happy hour: 6-9pm, Monday to Friday

The Black Swan

19 Cecil Street, tel: 8181-3305

Few things go better together than champagne and oysters, and the Champagne & Oysters happy hour promotion here lets you indulge in a pair of oysters accompanied by a glass of brut champagne for just $21. Top up $2 for rose champagne if you’re feeling extra-fancy. Stella Artois pints, house pour spirits and selected wines by the glass are priced at $10.50 each.
