Check into a local hotel on 9 August to celebrate Singapore’s National Day.

Singapore is 54 years young this year, and she’s throwing yet another huge B-day bash at the Padang. And if you want to catch the best views of the National Day fireworks without actually jostling with the maddening crowds, your best bet would be at these hotels. But book them stat before every Tan, Dick and Harry who doesn’t have a ticket to attend the official celebrations does.

1. Naumi Hotel Singapore

This cosy boutique hotel is as luxurious as it is playful. Walk into the lobby and experience a video installation by SG artist Aiman and lenticular pieces by French photographer Olivier Henry. Book the special designer rooms, Gabrielle & Camellia and Eden & Nirwana, and get to see in-room art pieces and decor that reflect Coco Chanel’s and Andy Warhol’s aesthetics, respectively. Of the other guest rooms, some even come with what the hotel terms as “magic glass”, where you can adjust privacy levels by switching the bathroom panels between transparent and opaque with just the push of a button.

And once you and the LO have had your fun with the “magic glass”, head up to the rooftop infinity pool that offers a sweeping panorama of the city skyline, and, on National day, unobstructed views of the fireworks. With it being a relatively intimate hotel, it also means you won’t have to squeeze with the crowd.

2. Destination Singapore Beach Road

(image)

Formerly known as Premier Inn Beach Road — it was quietly rebranded by Park Hotel Group in 2016 — this hotel‘s right smack in the middle of heritage and food capital Kampong Glam. It may be more of a value chain hotel, but amenities like the rooftop swimming pool keep it swanky.

Head up to (you guessed it) the rooftop pool to catch the fireworks, and make sure you factor in enough time to grab dinner or drinks at its heritage food resto Folklore or lobby bar before the SFX effects start.

3. PARKROYAL on Beach Road

Many of the rooms at this hotel have been renovated a few years ago and are generously spacious, so there’s that to take advantage of. The full length windows mean you get plenty of natural sunlight, or, on the evening of National Day, some of the best views of the fireworks. OR, just take a dip in its half-Olympic size outdoor pool in the evening and enjoy the pyrotechnics a little after.

Plus: The PARKROYAL group is known for great service as well, so if you’re new to the area, the staff will take great care of you. And if you are really, really new in SG, please note that there’s another PARKROYAL hotel nearby, the PARKROYAL on Pickering at Pickering Street.

4. Conrad Centennial Singapore

What’s to love at this stylish Hilton gem: The pampering touches like the personalised butler service, little bites welcoming you upon arrival, an impressive 15-item long pillow menu, and more.

To do during your stay here (even as it renovates its lounge, gym and in-house spa): while the afternoon away dining or sipping drinks at any of its 4 restos, before you partake in the National Day festivities come night-time.

5. Swissotel The Stamford

(image)

How can the tallest hotel in Singapore (it stands at 226 metres) not be included here? Considered an all-time favourite for watching the National Day fireworks display, Swissotel The Stamford has a great wide and open view of the entire city skyline if you get a room on the higher floors. If not, there is always the modern Michelin-starred European restaurant JAAN found at Level 70, and Shanghai’s Bar Rouge, a high-octane bar located at levels 71 and 72 of the Equinox Complex of the hotel to go to for a supremely elevated vision.

6. Pan Pacific Singapore

The sophisticated Pan Pacific Singapore brings more than creature comforts with their luxurious service utilities and amenities, from integrated bathroom speakers to an unbeatable selection of cable channels for in-room entertainment.

This National Day, they’ve got a special Fireworks Package (it includes breakfast!) for bay-facing rooms or room categories starting from its Deluxe Balcony and above, with inspiring views of the vibrant cityscape. And of the fireworks too, it goes without saying.

7. Mandarin Oriental, Singapore

(image)

Mandarin Oriental proves itself worthy of its 5-star luxury hotel rating time and again, with amenities like luxury spa treatments making it a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of Singapore life despite being conveniently located right in the centre of the city and central business districts.

Its hotel rooms seamlessly combining subtle oriental touches with luxurious contemporary comforts, and are even described as rooms with “city views”, “ocean views” and “city and Marina Bay views” on its website. So remember: ask for one on a high floor, preferably the Marina Bay View room with floor-to-ceiling windows. Or, get to BAY@5, the alfresco poolside lounge that offers equally great views of the bay.

8. JW Marriot Hotel Singapore South Beach

(image)

Just a few years ago, these dramatic Philippe Starck-designed twin towers were known as a mixed-development project called South Beach; now, it is rebranded as the 634-room JW Marriot Hotel Singapore South Beach. While the decor and furnishings have been toned down, it still maintains a sense of luxury and taste… and a superlative location for viewing the National Day feu d’artifice.

Prep for 9 August by nourishing yourself with Japanese cuisine from Akira Back, or go international at Beach Road Kitchen. Chill with some cocktails and tipples from any of the hotel’s 3 drinks dives, Media Bar, Tonic or Court Martial Bar. And then head up to any of its two sky gardens or two outdoor pools. Just don’t get too carried away until you forget what you’re here for — the pyrotechny effects!
